‘Ice’ with a street value estimated to be about half-a-million dollars was seized in an operation conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) on 16 July 2024, which also saw the arrest of a 25-year-old foreign national for suspected drug trafficking.

2.     Following an exchange of intelligence between CNB and the Narcotics Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKNB), in the afternoon of 16 July, CNB arrested a 25-year-old foreign national in the vicinity of Changi South just after he had deposited a package at an airfreight warehouse in the same vicinity.

3.    The package was seized by CNB and found to contain two ornamental lion figurines from which a total of about 4.15kg of ‘Ice’ was found concealed within the base structure of the two figurines.  The ‘Ice’ seized is estimated to be worth about $500,000.

4.       In expressing appreciation to HKNB, SAC Leon Chan, Deputy Director of CNB for Operations, said:

“CNB would like to thank HKNB for their sharing of intelligence which led to this large seizure of ‘Ice’.  Drug syndicates operate with no regard for borders and will cooperate with anyone anywhere so long as there are profits to be made.  In the face of such criminals, law enforcement agencies must cooperate closely with one another.  CNB stands ready to work with our close counterparts to neutralise such drug syndicates who profit from the misery inflicted on others and to bring them to justice.”

5.      Under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, it is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug. If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 250g of methamphetamine, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.
