77 Suspected Drug Offenders Arrested in Island-wide Operation

          Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested 77 suspected drug offenders in an island-wide drug operation from 6 to 10 March 2023. During the operation, controlled drugs of about 45g of heroin, 250g of ‘Ice’, 250g of cannabis, 2g of ketamine, four tablets of ‘Ecstasy’ and 27 Erimin-5 tablets were seized. These drugs have an estimated street value of about $49,000.

2.       Some of the areas covered during this island-wide operation included Bedok, Changi, Woodlands and Yishun.

7 March 2023: Arrest of a married couple for suspected drug offences

3.       On 7 March, CNB officers arrested a married couple (a 37-year-old Singaporean male and a 33-year-old female Singapore permanent resident) in the vicinity of Bedok Reservoir Road. The woman was arrested in her residential unit in the vicinity of Bedok Reservoir Road in the afternoon of 7 March, and in a follow-up operation the same evening, the man was spotted by CNB officers to have returned to the residential block and sitting at the staircase near the couple’s flat. On seeing CNB officers, the man attempted to evade arrest by running down the staircase, but was swiftly apprehended by CNB officers. A small amount of ‘Ice’ and various drug paraphernalia were recovered from the man.

8 March 2023: 34-year-old Singaporean man and woman arrested in the vicinity of Macpherson

4.        In the early hours of 8 March, Police attended to a traffic accident involving a car and a truck in the vicinity of Yishun Ave 7. The 34-year-old male driver of the car fled the scene and about 55g of cannabis, 18g of ‘Ice’, two tablets and fragments of ‘Ecstasy’, various drug paraphernalia, and an offensive weapon were recovered from the vehicle and in a bag dropped by the man at a nearby residential block. In a follow-up operation conducted by Police and CNB officers in the same evening, officers arrested a 34-year-old woman in the vicinity of Macpherson who led officers to the man hiding in a nearby residential unit. From within the unit, about 10g of heroin, 7g of ‘Ice’ and various drug paraphernalia were seized. Upon further checks, CNB officers located a parcel suspected to have been left for the man on another floor in the same residential block, and various drug paraphernalia were recovered from within the parcel.

5.       Superintendent Mohaideen Abdul Kadir, Deputy Commanding Officer of CNB Enforcement ‘J’ Division, said of the island-wide operation:

“We must remember that drugs cause harm and suffering not only to those who abuse them, but also to their families. CNB will continue to keep up the momentum of our enforcement efforts to combat the scourge of drugs, and launch timely enforcement operations to neutralise drug activities.”

6.        Investigations into all arrested suspects are ongoing.
