CNB sustains vigorous enforcement action in 24-hour islandwide operation

CNB mounted an islandwide anti-drug operation on 11 December 2008 as part of vigorous and deterrent enforcement action in the continued fight against drugs. A total of 9 suspected drug traffickers and 58 suspected drug abusers were arrested in various parts of Singapore, with seizure of drugs worth approximately $30,500.

Drugs hidden in sweet boxes

In one case, CNB officers had received information on suspected drug activities taking place in a unit at Blk 1 Maude Road. At about 1200 hours, the officers visited the unit and observed movement from within. The officers gave repeated warnings to the occupants to open the door but they refused to. As the officers effected forced entry, one of the occupants eventually opened the door.

The officers searched the unit and recovered straws of heroin hidden in multiple colourful sweet boxes. Altogether, approximately 85 grams of heroin, 11 grams of ketamine and 40 Erimin-5 tablets were found in the unit.

The officers arrested 2 suspected drug abusers and a suspected trafficker - a 50-year-old male Singaporean. Investigations are on-going.

Follow-up investigations led to further arrests

In another case, at about 1635 hours, another team of CNB officers acted on information received on drug activities in Merpati Road. The officers visited a unit in Blk 14 and arrested 2 suspected drug traffickers. Approximately 30 grams of heroin were recovered from one of the suspects.

CNB officers conducted follow-up investigations and swiftly rounded up 5 suspected drug abusers. The 2 suspected drug traffickers are male Singaporeans aged 39 and 26 respectively.

Together with other raids conducted as part of the island wide operation, CNB officers arrested a total of 9 suspected drug traffickers and 58 suspected drug abusers. Of the 58 suspected drug abusers, 51 persons tested positive for controlled drugs.

CNB will continue with its vigorous enforcement action against illicit drug activities to maintain a strong deterrent presence against both drug traffickers and abusers alike.
